Manufacturing and Industrial Sector Expertise
The manufacturing and industrial sector includes diverse facilities with complex processes, ageing assets and evolving operational requirements. Effective planning, engineering and lifecycle management are key to safe, efficient and compliant project execution.
RVA Group provides specialist industrial engineering consultancy, project, safety, health management and technical advisory services, supporting clients across the full lifecycle of industrial assets. From early-stage feasibility and front-end engineering design through to decommissioning, demolition and site remediation, we deliver safe, efficient and commercially focused solutions.
Our experience spans manufacturing plants, metals, processing facilities and heavy industrial environments, enabling clients to manage risk, optimise operations and plan effectively for future development.

Front end engineering design for manufacturing and industrial projects
Front End Engineering Design (FEED) within the industrial sector requires a highly structured and rigorous approach, where safety, regulatory compliance and technical precision must be embedded from the outset.
RVA provides specialist decommissioning engineering consultancy, supporting feasibility studies, technical planning, option appraisals and risk assessments aligned with regulatory frameworks. Our team works closely with clients and stakeholders to define project scope, identify constraints and develop robust engineering solutions that meet stringent safety and compliance standards.
By establishing a clear and comprehensive strategy, we help reduce uncertainty, improve cost accuracy and ensure projects are positioned for safe, controlled and compliant delivery based on the successful delivery of over 1000 industrial projects.
Asset operational life span in manufacturing and industrial facilities
Industrial facilities are typically designed for an operational lifespan but regularly continue to operate over extended lifecycles. These assets require careful planning, ongoing assessment and strategic management to ensure continued safety and compliance during decommissioning and demolition.
RVA provides independent experience of managing the successful delivery of over 1000 mainly high hazard industrial projects. This experience whilst supporting operators in the role of “intelligent friend” helps ensure that hazards and risks are identified, including commercial and either designed out through the preparation process or mitigation measures identified using the RVA HazDem (Hazards of Demolition).
HazDem is a step-by-step process, like Hazop but using decommissioning and demolition key words. RVA supports nuclear clients with:
- Feasibility and options studies
- Utility isolation strategies (WFI, HVAC, gases, steam, effluent)
- Project risk assessment, design reviews, ALARP planning and risk reduction strategies
- Contamination control and cleaning/decontamination definition
- Asset removal strategies
- Cost modelling, Costed technical strategies and project phasing
This foundation ensures nuclear projects are delivered safely and predictably.
Manufacturing and industrial decommissioning expertise
Decommissioning industrial facilities requires careful planning, coordination and technical expertise to ensure safe and efficient project delivery.
RVA, based on our learned experience of successfully delivering over 1000 decommissioning and demolition projects, provides specialist industrial decommissioning consultancy, supporting clients with strategy development, cost estimation, risk management and regulatory compliance. Our experience enables us to manage complex projects involving operational constraints, legacy infrastructure and stakeholder coordination.
We help clients plan and deliver decommissioning programmes that minimise disruption, control cost and ensure safe, compliant outcomes.
Demolition and dismantling of manufacturing and industrial assets
Industrial demolition projects often involve complex structures, heavy machinery and live operational environments, requiring detailed planning and technical oversight.
RVA provides industrial demolition consultancy, supporting the safe dismantling and removal of redundant equipment, plant and infrastructure. We develop detailed methodologies, carry out risk assessments and provide technical guidance to ensure demolition activities are delivered safely and efficiently.
Our experience across a wide range of industrial environments ensures that projects are completed with minimal disruption while maintaining strict safety and compliance standards.
Site remediation for manufacturing and industrial developments
Following decommissioning or demolition, manufacturing and industrial sites often require remediation to meet environmental standards and prepare for future use. RVA supports clients with remediation planning, regulatory compliance and redevelopment strategies. Our integrated approach ensures sites are returned to a safe, compliant condition while aligning with long‑term commercial and environmental objectives.
Involving RVA at an early stage—and where appropriate integrating environmental remediation requirements into the demolition project—can significantly reduce overall project timelines, costs and liabilities.
Manufacturing and industrial sites may require remediation due to:
- Contamination from oils, fuels, lubricants or process residues
- Wastes arising from historical manufacturing activities
- Redundant or contaminated drainage and effluent systems
- Hazardous materials such as asbestos, legacy insulation or specialist coatings
RVA develops proportionate remediation strategies aligned with environmental and regulatory requirements, restoring sites to safe and compliant conditions for future industrial, commercial or mixed‑use development. This approach helps clients unlock the full potential of their assets, enabling successful redevelopment and delivering long‑term value.
Manufacturing & Industrial Project - Johnson Matthey
RVA Group provided specialist engineering consultancy and project support for the demolition and removal of redundant equipment at Johnson Matthey’s industrial facility in Royston.
This complex project involved the safe dismantling and removal of process plant and infrastructure within an operational industrial environment, requiring careful planning, coordination and strict adherence to health, safety and environmental standards. RVA’s role included providing technical oversight, supporting demolition strategy development and ensuring that all works were delivered in line with regulatory requirements and best practice.
The project was completed ahead of schedule, demonstrating RVA’s ability to manage complex industrial demolition projects efficiently while maintaining a strong focus on safety and compliance.
This example highlights RVA’s capability to support manufacturing and industrial clients with the safe removal of redundant assets, helping to prepare sites for redevelopment, operational change or future investment.
