Nuclear Sector Expertise
The nuclear industry operates under some of the world’s strictest regulatory frameworks, requiring exceptional planning, technical precision and hazard management. RVA Group provides independent engineering consultancy, project, safety, health management and technical advisory services across nuclear generation, research facilities and associated infrastructure.
From early-stage feasibility and front-end engineering design through to decommissioning, demolition and site remediation, our team delivers safe, compliant and structured project solutions.
Our methodology ensures robust, safe and fully compliant project delivery.
Drawing on decades of experience within high-hazard industries, RVA applies a disciplined and methodical approach to nuclear projects, helping clients manage risk, navigate complex regulatory requirements and ensure safe and efficient delivery.
Front end engineering design for nuclear projects
Front End Engineering Design (FEED) within the nuclear sector requires a highly structured and rigorous approach, where safety, regulatory compliance and technical precision must be embedded from the outset.
RVA provides specialist nuclear decommissioning engineering consultancy, supporting feasibility studies, technical planning, option appraisals and risk assessments aligned with nuclear regulatory frameworks. Our team works closely with clients and stakeholders to define project scope, identify constraints and develop robust engineering solutions that meet stringent safety and compliance standards.
By establishing a clear and comprehensive strategy, we help reduce uncertainty, improve cost accuracy and ensure projects are positioned for safe, controlled and compliant delivery based on the successful delivery of over 1000 industrial projects.
Asset operational life span in nuclear facilities
Nuclear facilities are typically designed for long operational lifespans, requiring careful planning, ongoing assessment and strategic management to ensure continued safety and compliance.
RVA provides independent experience of managing the successful delivery of over 1000 mainly high hazard industrial projects. This experience whilst supporting operators in the role of “intelligent friend” helps ensure that hazards and risks are identified, including commercial and either designed out through the preparation process or mitigation measures identified using the RVA HazDem (Hazards of Demolition).
HazDem is a step-by-step process, like a Hazop but using decommissioning and demolition key words. RVA supports nuclear clients with:
- Feasibility and options studies
- Utility isolation strategies (WFI, HVAC, gases, steam, effluent)
- Project risk assessment, design reviews, ALARP planning and risk reduction strategies
- Contamination control and cleaning/decontamination definition
- Asset removal strategies
- Cost modelling, Costed technical strategies and project phasing
This foundation ensures nuclear projects are delivered safely and predictably.
Nuclear decommissioning expertise
Decommissioning within the nuclear sector is one of the most complex and tightly controlled activities in the built environment, requiring detailed planning, specialist knowledge and strict adherence to regulatory frameworks.
RVA provides expert nuclear decommissioning consultancy, supporting clients with strategy development, risk management, regulatory compliance and project planning throughout the decommissioning lifecycle.
RVA has supported a number of nuclear decommissioning projects, including the first use of explosives on the Calder Hall Cooling Towers, 3rd party independent review of proposed demolition methodologies.
Our approach ensures that decommissioning programmes are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with all legislative and environmental requirements, while maintaining full control over project risk and stakeholder engagement.
Demolition and dismantling of nuclear assets
Demolition and dismantling within nuclear environments require meticulous planning, specialist methodologies and strict safety controls due to the sensitive nature of materials and structures involved.
RVA provides nuclear demolition consultancy, supporting the safe and controlled dismantling of infrastructure through detailed engineering planning, risk assessment and technical oversight.
We work closely with clients, contractors and regulatory bodies to ensure that all demolition activities are carried out safely, compliantly and in accordance with best practice, minimising risk at every stage of the process.
