SECTORS
Power and Energy Sector Expertise
The power and energy sector operates within highly regulated, safety-critical environments where ageing infrastructure, evolving energy demands and decarbonisation targets all play a significant role in project strategy and delivery.
RVA Group provides specialist engineering consultancy, project, health, safety and environmental management, alongside technical advisory services to support power generation and energy infrastructure throughout the full asset lifecycle. The RVA HazDem process helps clients in the development of detailed costed feasibility/options studies, asset retirement obligations (ARO), decommissioning valuation reports (DVR), bond value calculations for regulatory compliance and outline decommissioning schemes (ODS) through to decommissioning, relocation, demolition and site remediation. Our team delivers safe, compliant and commercially focused solutions.
RVAs' experience spans conventional fossil fuelled power stations (coal, oil, peat and gas), as well as alternative energy driven generation methods (hydro and bio), through to greener and developing technologies (wind, solar, BESS), supporting infrastructure, helping clients manage risk, maintain operational performance and maximise economic benefit.

Front end engineering design for power and energy projects
Front End Engineering Design (FEED) is critical in power and energy projects, where early-stage decisions directly impact safety, cost and regulatory compliance. The RVA HazDem process supports clients with defining the baseline and actions to help design hazards and risks out of the demolition process, protecting the operatives undertaking the demolition but also site operator’s personnel, third parties and live assets. Helping to develop the project strategy ensures projects are clearly defined from the outset.
RVA provides specialist power and energy engineering consultancy, by producing feasibility studies, technical assessments, option appraisals and cost modelling for complex infrastructure planning for end of useful life, decommissioning and demolition. Our engineers work closely with asset owners and stakeholders to define project scope, identify decommissioning, reroutes and enabling works, whilst assessing engineering constraints and developing practical, compliant solutions aligned with regulatory requirements and environmental considerations.
By establishing a robust FEED strategy, we help clients reduce risk, improve project clarity and ensure efficient delivery across power generation and energy infrastructure assets moving towards end of economic operation.
Asset operational life span in power and energy facilities
Power generation assets are often required to operate beyond their original design life, making effective asset lifecycle management essential to maintaining safety, reliability and efficiency.
RVA can assist the transition from operation through decommissioning to demolition and removal. Once an asset can no longer operate safely or economically, its operational life is considered complete. It then moves into structured decommissioning, which typically includes:
- Engineering definition of demolition scope
- Removal of hazardous inventories (fuel, chemicals, asbestos, etc.)
- When to deenergisation some assets may be required to enable decommissioning
- Establishing enabling and reroutes to allow for risk reduction of the demolition process, isolating not only services but also structures from live assets
- Isolation strategies to allow disconnection from networks
- Physical dismantling and demolition
- Environmental and contamination surveys
- Waste management and site remediation
- Permit surrender
RVA works with all its clients throughout the above activities, whether it is full service or individual consultancy assignments.
Power and energy decommissioning expertise
Decommissioning power stations and energy infrastructure is a complex, multi-disciplinary process requiring careful planning, stakeholder coordination and strict regulatory compliance.
RVA provides specialist power station decommissioning consultancy, supporting clients with strategy development, cost estimation, regulatory engagement and project management. Our experience ensures that complex energy assets can be safely decommissioned while minimising environmental impact and maintaining control over programme and cost.
Early engagement allows us to identify risks, remove those risks where possible, optimise project sequencing and deliver safe, efficient and compliant decommissioning outcomes.
Demolition and dismantling of power and energy assets
The demolition and dismantling of power and energy facilities presents significant engineering challenges, including large-scale structures, complex plant and operational constraints.
RVA provides specialist energy infrastructure demolition consultancy, aiding the safe planning and execution through detailed methodologies, risk assessments and technical oversight.
We work collaboratively with clients and contractors to ensure demolition activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with industry regulations, while minimising disruption and maintaining environmental compliance.
Site remediation for power and energy developments
Following decommissioning and demolition, site remediation is essential to prepare energy infrastructure sites for redevelopment or future use.
RVA provides energy site remediation consultancy, assisting environmental planning, regulatory compliance and site restoration strategies. Our integrated approach ensures remediation activities align with environmental legislation and future land use requirements.
We help clients transform former energy sites into safe, compliant and commercially viable assets. Involving RVA at an early stage and potentially integrating any environmental remedial requirements into the demolition project, can significantly reduce project timelines, overall project costs and liabilities.
Power and Energy Sector Project - Sembcorp Wilton Power Station
RVA Group provided specialist engineering consultancy and project support for the decommissioning and demolition of a number of boilers operated by SembCorp.
This large-scale project involved the safe demolition of complex power station infrastructure, including heavy plant, process systems and associated structures working close to live assets within a highly regulated and safety-critical environment. RVA worked closely with the client and project stakeholders to develop a structured decommissioning strategy, ensuring that all activities were carefully planned, risk-assessed and aligned with regulatory and environmental requirements.
RVA provided review and oversight of the explosive blowdowns of the Boilers
Projects such as this demonstrate RVA’s ability to work collaboratively with operators, contractors and regulatory bodies to ensure that large-scale industrial assets can be safely decommissioned while maintaining operational continuity where required.
