| I was searching…for companies who could assist GSK in looking for contractors capable
of decontaminating our production facility for penicillin and its derivative….
We asked RVA for a proposal that we would add value, as we in GSK had our ideas on the approach. This you did………. An excellent scope of work was prepared and a number of site visits for pre-qualification arranged. The GSK technical staff who took part in the pre-qualification were impressed with the potential bidders selected by RVA.
The quality of the tender document prepared by RVA meant the bids fully encompassed all the work expected by GSK. The general opinion from my Project Manager and team involved in the wider project is that RVA have delivered a lot in a short time…..
Our confidence in RVA being able to add further value is such that the opinion of the team is that full time input from RVA when we start the decontamination work will be of real assistance.

| We hunted the whole of the UK looking for consulting engineers with experience in CDM projects of this type and filling the role of CDM Co-ordinator. After several meetings with potential vendors it became clear that RVA were by far the best choice to lead our project. There were many reasons for this but total professionalism and health and safety excellence were the main factors . During the project we were not disappointed in our choice .
The scope of work changed continually from total demolition and full environmental remediation to equipment dismantling and leaving buildings standing . None of this continuous change and uncertainty phased RVA in the least . The control of the works by RVA was very thorough and well documented including choice of principal contractor, risk assessment/method statement validation/approval , routine auditing and weekly site review meetings . The dismantling phase of the project was completed on time and on budget with zero injuries and only one minor near miss reported.

| The scope of the project covered two chemical plants and associated tank farms, silos and utility equipment. There was emphasis during the project to work closely with neighbouring production units owned by Basell that were still fully operational.
Throughout the full project, RVA engineers demonstrated a thorough understanding and knowledge of all applicable regulations and standards. Health, Safety and Environmental considerations were always placed first and foremost in all aspects of their work.
A very tight schedule was set and RVA worked to ensure that the project time-line tendered by the demolition contractor was constantly reviewed and updated throughout the project.
RVA Consulting Engineers Ltd were an asset to the project and added value during the full period of the contract.

| The project included the removal of hazardous
materials and the sequential dismantling of the
structure and plant, in an area constrained by the
adjacent operational Energy Recovery Facility,
which is active on a 24 hour basis.
In addition to ensuring the contractor maintained
an extremely high level of EHS compliance, they
were vigilant in their assessment and auditing of
method statements and the execution of the works.
Adding value at many stages, RVA were also
instrumental in brokering an agreement whereby
a gain-share of savings achieved over the
contract period, were fairly distributed between ourselves and the contractor.

RVA worked closely with the CIBA team and quickly gained the detailed knowledge required to produce a scope of work for competitive tender… the process was completed in a professional and efficient manner.
RVA’s attention to detail, especially on health, safety and environmental issues……..has been excellent. The contract duration was 79 weeks which was completed on time, on budget, without variation and most importantly, without any incidents or lost time accidents.
